Boxing Tasmania Incorporated (BTI) wishes to pay tribute to Ron Gower who passed away on 8 February 2018.

Ron was a stalwart member of the Tasmanian boxing community and achieved great personal success as an athlete. At age seventeen, he won the 1946 Tasmania Flyweight Championship and the following year, he won the Australian Flyweight Title.

He represented Australia at the 1948 London Olympics and was named by the Australian Selectors as the number one boxer. He then represented Australia at the 1950 Auckland Empire Games. In 1952, he again represented Australia, this time at the Helsinki Olympic Games.

Ron is remembered as being a determined, yet modest champion and an all-time great of Tasmanian boxing. Since his retirement from boxing in 1955, Ron was a generous supporter of the Olympic movement. He was also known as a mentor for many young people and there were many who looked up to him.
