What a great night the Bass Strait Cup Challenge was. The Bass Strait Cup challenge saw a total of 16 bouts; 8 of those were Bass Strait Cup bouts (TAS vs VIC) and 8 local. We were treated to a night of high-quality boxing, great sportsmanship and encouragement both inside and outside the ring.

 

Thank you to Boxing Victoria for working closely with us to make this significant event a success. Congratulations to Victoria for winning 7 of 8 bouts to retain the Bass Strait Cup.

 

The performance of our Tasmanian Team against the Victorian Team is something we should all be very proud of. This event highlighted the strength of Tasmanian Boxing and was a fantastic learning experience for all those involved. Tasmania is excited about future opportunities to collaborate with Victoria as events like the Bass Strait Cup are beneficial for all.

 

Congratulations to Ava Powell on being awarded Best Female Boxer, Rafferty Clarke as Best Male Boxer, and Max Gaffney taking home Boxer of the Night. These awards were well deserved. Well done to all boxers who stepped up and competed on this card. We were lucky enough to see 24 talented Tasmania boxers in action.

And thank you to our incredible volunteers for your time, effort, hard work and energy. There are so many people to thank, including the crew from Tigers Den Boxing Club who helped set up the ring, our Event Doctor, Dr Shipra Sankpal, and all the officials who gave their time throughout the event. I extend a special thank you to those who packed down the ring immediately after the event: Gary Cooper, Jane Applebee and Mark Chiffey. The ring pack down is a huge task, but after 3 hours, a tried team of 4 got the job done. Thank you!

 

I wish everyone a positive end to 2024. It has been my pleasure to step into the Boxing Tasmania community this year and be welcomed by the passionate people in it. We can now congratulate ourselves on a successful 2024 and look ahead to an exciting 2025.
