QLD Golden Gloves

Published Thu 08 Sep 2016

Five athletes from the Latrobe Boxing Club and O'Callaghan's Boxing Gym participated in the Golden Gloves in Queensland.

Luke Woods, Tasmania's golden boy, competed in four bouts and won all to take out the gold. Young Ethan Tirant stepped in to the ring for the first time. Ethan put in a great effort and brought home silver. Damien Mackrell won his first bout, but unfortunately lost his second. Regardless he made us proud!

Our two female athletes turned it up, both winning gold. Erika Creely, Junior Female 60kg National Champion, is on a streak this year, also winning gold at the U19s National in QLD earlier in the year. New up and comer Maddie Holland shows a lot of promise and will also be one to watch as women's involvement in the sport grows.

Damian Mackrell, Elite 64kg

Erika Creely, Junior 60kg -Gold-

Ethan Tirant, Schoolboy 60kg -Silver-

Luke Woods, Elite 69kg -Gold-

Maddison Holland, Junior 59kg -Gold-

Also a special mention to Luke Woods who was voted by approximately 400 other athletes as the best boxer of the tournament. A fantastic & fitting achievement!

Finally thank you to our State Coach, Craig Woods for his support and leadership.
